While in uniform, IDF soldiers are all the same. Whether they are religious, secular, Jewish, Druze, Muslim or Christian, all IDF soldiers are fighting to protect Israel from her enemies. It doesn’t matter what your socio-economic situation is or if you finished high school or if you are good at sports. Every platoon member becomes part of a family and an unspoken pact is made that is often stronger than life itself, you are willing to put your life in danger to protect your platoon mates and they would do the same for you.
While most soldiers can’t wait for a leave when they get to go home, sleep in a comfortable bed and eat home cooked meals while enjoying some quality family time, there are other soldiers who actually dread the end of the week. As long as they are on base, they are not a financial burden on their families and as long as they are wearing their uniform, they get to forget about their family’s financial difficulties and feel at ease. As if the stress of life threatening situations in the IDF is not enough, these soldiers are fighting emotional stress on two fronts and we decided to give them a hand.
The IDF has many programs to help soldiers whose families have financial difficulties, but when it comes to the holidays, the financial burden and worry becomes even more stressful. The Passover holiday is also called the holiday of freedom and commemorates the time when the nation of Israel was set free from the slavery of Egypt. It is supposed to be a holiday filled with food, festivities and family fun, but when one’s family’s financial situation is “not good” the holiday actual turns into a very stressful time for everyone.
There is no reason for an IDF soldier, who puts his/her life on the line to protect Israel, to come home to anything but happiness and comfort. Together with IDF social workers, Standing Together is adopting at least 1,000 IDF soldiers for Passover. We will be sending packages with food and goods to families of IDF soldiers who are in need of financial assistance. We want soldiers to come home for the holiday and enjoy their family and the Passover holiday without worry. Each passover package will have the essentials for the Passover holiday as well as some extras to help put a smiles on a soldier’s face and help his family celebrate Passover as it was meant to be celebrated.
Each package cost only $30 and we have at least 1,000 IDF families that we need to get to.
This is one campaign no one who cares for Israel should turn their backs on.
Let’s help IDF soldiers have a very happy Passover!
